Tony immigrated to New Zealand from Ireland in 2002 and prior to forming OBD Consultants Limited he carried out civil and structural design and project management services for a wide range of reputable firms throughout the world. Tony graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Trinity College Dublin in 1993 and started his career in the field of engineering in 1994.
Tony leads the OBD team to produce best work with high quality and efficiency while making the office environment more friendly and enjoyable. Every job done in the office goes through Tony which guarantees quality and precision.
After work Tony loves spending time with his family and bees, enjoys playing guitar, and training martial arts.
Chartered Professional Engineer
Julie is our team leader holding CPEng with 10 years design experience. Julie’s expertise is with architecturally designed structures and liaison with architects and other consultants to get projects completed to time and budget. She is responsible for the detailed design of buildings, project liaison and construction observation.
Before joining OBD she had worked on multiple big projects such as the Mangere refugee resettlement centre, where she was responsible for overseeing the coordination of the design process, and Chapel Rd residential development.
As OBD’s team leader she makes sure our work is of best quality and completed with high efficiency while supporting every member of the team. As well as being a caring team leader she is also a loving mum at home. She loves to spend time with her family and friends as well as exploring the local parks and beaches.
Senior Structural Engineer
Blazenka is our Senior Structural Engineer who has almost 30 years of experience in both structural engineering design and drafting. She has obtained the Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE), at the University of Zagreb, Croatia in 1988. Blazenka has worked with a few prominent consultancies as a Contract Engineer where she worked on variety of projects such as residential and commercial sector.
At OBD Blazenka performs numerous tasks including structural analysis and design, structural detailing, liaison with architects and clients, site visits, and report writing. She also shares her knowledge and experience with younger engineers.
Blazenka is best described as friendly and good-humoured team member whose supportive and compassionate approach underpins a focus on producing accurate and reliable outcomes at all times. She loves to feel the satisfaction of knowing that the job was well done and the client is happy.
At home Blazenka loves cooking and spoiling her teenage boys as well as being an organic gardener. Not to forget Blazenka has thirst for continuous personal development.
David (Wei) Chen
David has a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from the University of Auckland (2011) in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
GIPENZ, Graduate member of Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand
David has been with the company 3 years and before joining OBD Consultants, he gained experience in civil engineering, working predominantly as a structural engineer.
He has gained local experience in structural design of residential, light commercial & industrial projects in Auckland and spent several months in Christchurch after the 2011 earthquake conducting geotechnical investigations.
David specialises in seismic and wind stability design and detailing using materials such as timber and steel.
When he is not working, David likes to go fishing with friends and spending time with his family.
Graduate Structural Engineer
Tanweer is a graduate member of our team who obtained his Bachelor of Engineering Degree from The University of Auckland in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
With us, he has had the opportunity to gain local experience in the design of residential projects from the superstructure to the substructure (foundation) to the current standards. Apart from residential projects, he is also involved with carrying out seismic restraint designs of mechanical services and design of commercial racking requiring seismic analysis. Even though he doesn’t have multiple years of experience, the range of work he is capable of doing is huge. Tanweer is also in charge of all the technical problems we have.
In his free time, Tanweer likes to go hiking, swimming and playing touch rugby. Tanweer follows rugby sevens especially and is a great supporter of the Fijian rugby team. He also has been our Foosball Champion for the past 6 months.
BIM Structural Drafter
John is the one and only, and our best drafter who takes care of our structural drawings and detailed drawings. He has joined us at the end of 2016 from Beca where he gained multiple years of experience working on various structures. John's specialties are his skills at using Revit and other tools.
As soon as he leaves work John turns into a dad who loves spending time with his family. John enjoys going to the beach with his wife and his son, who looks just like him, and during weekends he makes the most out of New Zealand's nature by going spear fishing and free-diving.
Junior Cadet Engineer
Michael is currently studying Civil and Environmental Engineering at The University of Auckland where he is learning to become a Structural Engi
neer. While working with OBD, he is gaining better understanding of the works and processes which engineers carry out to design structures safely and efficiently.
Michael is in charge of lifting the office atmosphere up as well as assisting all the staff in different ways. He is also OBD’s very own walking library search engine where he will find any files in the library as long as it’s in the library.
After work Michael enjoys playing basketball and carrying out his daily exercise routine. He also loves to take photos of New Zealand's nature.
Originally from the Waikato Karen's family moved to the Hibiscus
Coast 40+ years ago, when her parents bought a local business.
Karen specializes in general administration for small businesses and has a previous experience working several years in a Mechanical Workshop office and also for a local Kitchen Manufacturer.
She provides administrative support for the in-house engineers at OBD consultants, and she was the original Foosball Champion!
Karen spends most her time when not working, in a voluntary position wet crew of Hibiscus Coastguards two rescue vessels.
As well as rowdy dinners and trivial pursuit evenings with family and friends, she enjoys reading, boating, fishing and tramping
Amisha has a background of administration within corporate and large charity organisations both in New Zealand and Ireland.
Amisha takes care of the accounts and payroll for OBD and whilst juggling a young family with their sports and activities, taking an active part in the local community, and working within the business part time, Amisha still finds time to spend in their extensive garden.
